Zydeco: The Mangroves

Next in a long lineage of Creole, Zydeco and Cajun musicians in the Bay Area, The Mangroves combine an eclectic mix of traditional Louisiana French standards, golden era R&B, and Blues. Band leader, Singer and Accordionist Max Lopez, has studied with and spent time as band member of Louisiana Creole masters Jeffery Broussard, Cedric Watson and Mark St. Mary. In the Mangroves he brings both that experience and his own unique voice and repertoire to the genre. In Trio form, the Mangroves other 2/3rds is also Oakland based duo The Deep Basement Shakers. Aaron Hammerman (Piano) and Dave Eagle (Washboard) bring their own brand of early blues, boogie woogie, barrelhouse and R&B to the gumbo. Such influences are a natural fit that match their historical fusion with Traditional Creole French music to form modern Zydeco.
